Jagjit Singh has become a legend in the Ghazal (semi-classical) form of Indian music. During the 1970's, the art of Ghazal was dominated by well established names like Malika Pukhraj, Begum Akthar, Talat Mahmood, and Mehdi Hassan. However, Jagjit Singh was able to make his mark. The emphasis on melody and Jagjit's fresh voice was a departure from the prevalent Ghazals based on classical Indian music. Jagjit and his wife Chitra have contributed immensely towards changing the course of Ghazal, making it more ear-friendly, melodic, and enjoyable by a wider audience.

In 1976 he released his first album "The Unforgettables" and the rest is history.

Jagjit has been on several world tours with his concerts and won the hearts of his fans and audience.

He has won several awards including the highest award "Padma Shri."
