Alley Theatre's Young Performers Studio continues its year long programs for children ages 7 through 17 in October with Saturday theatre classes, beginning October 17 to December 12. To kick-off the Fall Session, the Alley Theatre Young Performers Studio will be offering free classes at Discovery Green Conservancy called Teatro Alley in September.

Teatro Alley is a theatre and language workshop for children ages 7 to 9. Open up a magic door to language, learning and adventure as kids explore and perform culturally diverse stories and tales. This bilingual English and Spanish workshop is taught by Alley Trained teaching artists. Instruction incorporates movement, improvisation, and scripted storytelling. Teatro Alley classes will be on Saturdays in September, beginning September 5, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM in the Morgan Outdoor Reading Room at Discovery Green Conservancy (1500 McKinney).
Run by the Alley Theatre's Education and Community Engagement (ECE) department, Young Performers Studio workshops focus on ensemble building, improvisation techniques, physical and vocal training, acting classes, production and design.
Director of ECE Joe Angel Babb explains, "Our classes are not designed for budding child actors, but rather for all children with an interest in theatre-play. Our goal is to foster the creativity in each child and build life skills that reach beyond the stage, while we engage in dynamic theatre activities."

The Young Performers Studio curriculum is designed to meet requirements of the National Standards for Arts Education and its structure is modeled on the Essential Elements of the Texas Theatre Arts Curriculum.

Sessions during the 2009 fall Young Performers Studio program are on Saturdays from October 17 to December 12, 2009. Morning classes run from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM and afternoon classes run from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Tuition for the Alley Theatre Young Performers Studio Fall Sessions is $200.00 per session. Alley Theatre subscribers receive a 10% discount. A limited number of scholarships are available to Houston residents based on need.
