Mystery Caper and Film Noir Blend with EMIL AND THE DETECTIVES at Segerstrom Center

Go on a journey of self-discovery with Emil and the Detectives April 4 and 5 in Samueli Theater as part of the Center's imaginative 2019-2020 Family Series. Australia's celebrated Slingsby Theatre Company performs a poignant coming-of-age story that combines the thrilling intrigue of a classic mystery caper with an evocative film noir design, complete with smoke and mirrors, miniature worlds and a cinematic score. Based on the 1929 novella by German writer Erich Kästner, Emil & the Detectives explores the value of friendships, taking risks and the empowerment of young people.

Audiences are encouraged to arrive one hour before the performance for free creative activities. For these performances, Samueli Lobby will be transformed into Newtown train station and arriving audiences of all ages will be greeted by train attendants and invited to help rebuild the city through a variety of activities.

Tickets are $20 and are available online at SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. Group discounts for groups of 10 or more are available at (714) 755-0236. The 1:00 performance on April 5 will be ASL interpreted. The Center offers many services for patrons with disabilities including removable wheelchair locations, binoculars and assistive listening devices.
