La Mirada Theatre to Present THE FREEDOM MACHINE as Part of Play Development Series
LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS announces the first new musical in its INKSLINGERS Play Development Series, THE FREEDOM MACHINE, music and lyrics by Shane Alexander, story and book by Larry Carpenter, musical direction by David O and directed by Larry Carpenter. THE FREEDOM MACHINE will perform two nights only Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24 at 8:00pm at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.
LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS has a strong commitment to developing new, exciting theatre pieces. The INK SLINGERS Series gives promising new plays & musicals a workshop play-reading experience and introduces audiences to the creative process behind developing a new theatre piece. Be part of this very important piece of the process for the playwright and composer to hear the characters come to life and allow for adjustments, rewrites and fine-tuning. A TalkBack session with the creators/artists will take place following the readings when audiences can share what they thought about the show.
In the near-future, Washington D.C. has become a paramilitary war-zone surrounded by the ghetto of a collapsed American society. Below ground, in a dangerous under-society, live a radical kid-rocker named Shane and an eccentric computer genius named Henry. Together, they work off-the- grid, rescuing damaged and abandoned children. Guided by Henry and led by Shane, this collection of kids has become the Freedom Machine - a cell of cyber-insurgents whose civil disobedience and rock and roll protest ignite a peoples' revolt; exposing the corrupt government internet and online vote - restoring a true democratic process - and finding their way back home.
THE FREEDOM MACHINE will perform two nights only Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24 at 8:00pm at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.
