Jerome Elliott Debuts New Cabaret Show at the Arthur Newman Theater, 7/27

By:
Local singer and actor Jerome Elliott presents Up In Flames at the Arthur Newman Theater at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 2 PM. Up in Flames is Elliott's seventh original cabaret show since 2008, following such critically acclaimed shows as Bat Out of Jersey, A Dry Heat, Crawling Back to Broadway, and Sweet Nerd of Youth. Audiences can expect Elliott's trademark witty repartee as he performs a program of "songs so hot, they're cool!" His longtime accompanist and collaborator Charlie Creasy will join him onstage, with a special appearance by Keisha D, Elliott's duet partner for the past two years.

"In my newest show," states Elliott; "I have chosen to celebrate the element of fire in all of its various musical contexts - torch songs, songs of passion, and songs with a spark of playfulness. I also wanted to push myself in unexpected direction using different music genres; country (Ring of Fire, June Carter); pop (Vincent, Don McLean); and classic rock (Light My Fire, The Doors). I've also got some of Broadway's finest composers and lyricists in the mix - Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, Steven Lutvak, Stephen Sondheim and William Finn. And I'll be doing a sneak preview of material from Fred Barton's New York cabaret classic Miss Gulch Returns, which I'll be performing next spring at Desert Ensemble Theatre Company."

Jerome Elliott won a 2013 Desert Theatre League Award for his performance in Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays at the Annenberg Theater (Keith Coleman Productions). A prolific cabaret performer and writer, he has taken his critically acclaimed one-man shows to major cabaret venues in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Diego, and St. Louis. In 2008 Jerome was one of 36 singers selected from international auditions for the Sixth Annual International Cabaret Conference at Yale University. He is a three-time finalist of the McCallum Theater's "Open Call" project and a 2012 finalist for "Voice of the Valley." For more information visit www.jeromelliott.com. Photo credit: Jack Hartin.
