The Plaids have sung their way into the hearts of Costa Mesa Playhouse patrons since their opening night performance April 8, but in just two short weeks they must bid farewell. This famous fictional male quartet will continue to perform "the show that never was" now through May 8. The musical is directed by Stephen Hulsey.

Forever Plaid is a musical-fantasy about the four young, eager members of a 1950s close-harmony boy band who, killed in a car crash on the way to their first big gig, are allowed to return from the afterlife for one night to perform their dream concert, singing some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the ‘50s. The show's beloved songs include Three Coins in the Fountain, Sixteen Tons, and Love is a Many Splendored Thing.

Since its Off-Broadway premiere in 1990, Forever Plaid, written by Stuart Ross, has continued to be one of the most popular musicals worldwide, and is perfect for the whole family.
Director Stephen Hulsey says, "The Costa Mesa Playhouse has assembled a fantastic cast of both Plaid veterans in Jason Holland (Sparky) & Jon Schoenherz (Jinx) as well as Plaid newbies Shawn Summerer (Smudge) and Diego Lee (Francis). With its relatable, exuberant characters and catchy musical numbers, we think this show will strike a chord for audiences of all ages."

This is the 17th production of "Forever Plaid" for director Stephen Hulsey, who is also musical director. Having worked with some of the original Plaids as well as Las Vegas alumni, Stephen is re-staging the show using the original Vegas choreography.

Forever Plaid opens with a low-priced preview performance on Friday, April 8, with all seats $16. Saturday, April 9, is a gala opening night celebration with a champagne and appetizer reception. All seats are $23. For all other performances, tickets are $18 general admission, $16 for students and seniors, and $13 per person for groups of 10 or more. Forever Plaid plays Fridays & Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, April 8 through May 8 with a special Saturday matinee at 2 pm on April 23.
