The Costa Mesa Playhouse presents the second production of its 53rd season, Josefina López's play about the Latina immigrant experience, "Real Women Have Curves," running September 8 through October 1, 2017.

Based on her own experiences, Josefina López's play tells the story of five full-figured Latina women who are racing to meet production deadlines in order to keep their tiny East L.A. sewing factory from going under. While they work and hide from immigration agents, they talk about their husbands, lovers, children and dreams for the future. A microcosm of the Latina immigrant experience, "Real Women Have Curves" celebrates real women's bodies, the power of women, and the strength of the Latina experience.

Originally premiering in 1990 and produced as a motion picture in 2002, Josefina López updated the play in 2015 to incorporate ever-changing immigration laws. López will attend the September 23 performance and participate in an audience talkback with the director and cast following the show. Additional talkback opportunities with cast, crew, and director will be held on Sept 10, 16, and 30.

"Real Women Have Curves" is directed by Sara Guerrero, founding artistic director of Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble, Orange County's only Latina theatre. Guerrero was recently named by American Theatre Magazine as a person to watch in American theatre. This is her first production with the Costa Mesa Playhouse.

The all-Latina cast features Tiffany McQuay, Angela Moore, Jessica Delgado, Angela Apodaca, and, alternating in the central role of Ana, Anatalia Vallez and Aurora Hale (Sept. 15-17).
