Cast and Creative Team Announced for YOGA PLAY at South Coast Repertory

South Coast Repertory has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Yoga Play, a comedy by Dipika Guha. The production is part of the 20th Pacific Playwrights Festival, the theatre's annual showcase of new work. Crispin Whittell will direct performances in the Nicholas Studio, April 19-30. The cast includes Tim Chiou, Nike Doukas, Jeff Marlow, LorenA Martinez and Dileep Rao.

The creative team includes Se Hyun Oh, set design; Kathryn Poppen, costume design; Adam J. Frank, lighting design; Cricket S. Myers, sound design; Lianne Arnold, projections; and Joanne DeNaut, CSA, casting. John Glore is the dramaturg; Jackie S. Hill is the production manager and Bradley Zipser is the stage manager.

Yoga Play starts in the aftermath of a fat-shaming scandal that brought down the CEO of yoga apparel giant Jojomon. The company brings in a fixer named Joan who just hits her stride to stabilize the company when more trouble surfaces and sales plummet. The plan she comes up with is so risky that it could make or break the company and her career-and what it requires from her CFO is far beyond the call of duty.

Yoga Play is an SCR CrossRoads commission, a program that immerses playwrights in the diversity of Orange County, Calif., to be inspired by what they find.

Born in Calcutta, Guha was raised in India, Russia and the United Kingdom. She is the inaugural recipient of the Shakespeare's Sister Playwriting Fellowship with The Lark Playwrights Development Center, A Room of Her Own and Hedgebrook. Her work has been developed at numerous theatres including Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, Red Bull Theatre and Roundabout Underground. She is under commission from Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Playwrights Horizons Theatre School.

Whittell previously directed the world premiere production of The Purple Lights of Joppa Illinois at SCR during the 2014 Pacific Playwrights Festival.
