This concert reading of the opera Jubilee is presented as the culminating arts experience of the Yale Innovation Summit. The work-in-process tells the semi-fictional story of Vyry Brown, a character inspired by Margaret Duggans Ware Brown, who was born into slavery and fights to protect her family through Emancipation and Reconstruction. Scored with blues, jazz, and gospel influences, the opera weaves poems from This Is My Century set to music by Randy Klein, with original arias and recitative by Joan Ross Sorkin.
