Windham Theatre To Hold Auditions Of Its Production Of THE FANTASTICKS 9/8-9

Auditions for Windham Theatre's production of The Fantasticks will be held on Tuesday & Wednesday, September 8 & 9, 2009 at 7 PM at the Windham Middle School Auditorium, Quarry Street, Willimantic.   The show will be directed by Victor Funderburk with Music Direction by Ken Clark.  The show dates are November 6, 7, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20 & 21, 2009 at the Burton Leavitt Theatre.

The Fantasticks is the "longest running production of any kind in the world, and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers.  The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time."

Requirements for auditions: Actors/singers who can interact with an audience with magic, romance and intensity.

Cast of Characters

The Narrator: (El Gallo):  Male, A rakish, handsome gallant from the carnival (baritone/tenor)

The Parents (Hucklebee and Bellomy): Preferable and usually male, women to be considered, looking for dynamic relationship, a synergistic, energizing pair of friends.

Hucklebee - Background in navy, meticulous gardener, parent of the boy (baritone/tenor, if  male:alto/mezzo, if female)

Bellomy - A merchant, also a picky gardener (baritone/tenor, if male:  alto/mezzo, if female)

The Boy:  (Matt) - An innocent young man. (baritone, tenor)

The Girl:  (Luisa) - A romantic idealistic young woman  (soprano)

The Actor:  (Henry) - An aging, over-the-top thespian (baritone)

The Man Who Dies: (Mortimer) - Henry's goofy sidekick, an actor pretending to be an American Indian (baritone)

The Mute:  (1or 2, male or female) - A speechless, agile presence who watches, acts as the  wall, moves and carries props, a presence.

Prepare a musical number for the singing roles.  Piano accompaniment will be provided.
