Wilton Playshop Hosts Hearing Impaired ITALIAN AMERICAN RECONCILIATION Show, 5/2

On Sunday, May 2nd, a performance of ITALIAN AMERICAN RECONCILIATION: A FOLKTALE, playing April 30-May 8 at The Wilton Playshop, will feature open captioning for the hearing impaired for its matinee performance of Oscar, Tony and Pulitzer-Prize winning writer John Patrick Shanley's   play. Open captioning is being coordinated by Alan Gould.

Following the performance there will be an audience reception, where Wilton First Selectman Bill Brennan will read a proclamation honoring the 60th Anniversary of the Connecticut Speech Language and Hearing Association, the Children's Institute of New York, and The Wilton Playshop for its continued support of special theatrical presentations for those with hearing loss. This performance will be the 23rd production and 7th open-captioned presentation designed for deaf/hearing impaired theater-goers in Connecticut.   

With the aid of a portable unit, the captioning (or script) appears in red letters on a small digital screen that is located in front of the theater to one side of the stage. Scrolled manually, in synchronization with the dialogue, the script is entered ahead of time, thus the captions appear with no time delay to transcription errors during the performance. 

Open Captioning is provided by Access Communications, LLC of Guilford, Connecticut. Sponsors include The Children's Hearing Institute of New York, The Connecticut  Speech Language and Hearing Association, Dr. Priscilla Bollard Wilder, Children's Hearing Institute,  Vision Consultants of Wilton and Friends of The Wilton Playshop.

ITALIAN AMERICAN RECONCILIATION: A FOLKTALE opens Friday, April 30 and runs through Saturday, May 8th. Written by Moonstruck author, John Patrick Shanley, Italian American Reconciliation is "a dysfunctional love story that is particularly appropriate for today," according to Director Jeanine DeFalco of Trumbull.

A romantic comedy set in Little Italy, the play includes a cast and crew from throughout Fairfield County including Michael Limone, of Stamford, as Aldo Scalicki, Glenn Packman, of Norwalk, as Huey Maximilian Bonfigliano, Dana Dicerto, of Norwalk, as Teresa, Jessie Gilbert, of Weston, as Aunt May and Nancy Anderson, of Fairfield, as Janice.
