Westport's MTC School of Performing Arts Now Registering for Fall 2012

Music Theatre of Connecticut School of Performing Arts, located in Westport, is currently registering for the fall term, which begins Monday, September 10. MTC offers classes for students ages 4 and up, and is also accepting registration for the student production of the hit musical "Annie," which will be performed at the legendary Westport Country Playhouse. Classes will take place at Music Theatre of Connecticut, convenietntly located in downtown Westport at 246 Post Road East. For over 25 years, MTC School of Performing Arts has been Fairfield County’s most complete resource for the musical theatre, providing conservatory-style educational programming and professional musical theatre. The only organization of its kind in Connecticut, MTC was founded in 1987 by Directors Kevin Connors and Jim Schilling. MTC is a Certified Member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, the first theatre school to be accepted for membership in this esteemed organization. MTC trains over 500 students per season and more than 4,000 audience members attend the seven full-scale productions each year. MTC students have presented more than 200 productions including "The Music Man," "Once on this Island," "Footloose," "Fiddler on the Roof," "The Wiz" and "Guys and Dolls." Alumni of MTC’s College Prep Division have graduated or are currently pursuing performing arts degrees in top-tier programs including those at the University of Michigan, Boston Conservatory, Syracuse University, NYU, Northwestern  University, Carnegie-Mellon University and Emerson College; others can be seen on Broadway, in regional theatres throughout the country, on television and in feature films. 

The MTC faculty includes co-founders Kevin Connors and Jim Schilling, Rebecca Barko, Marty Bongfeldt, Blair Brown, Alyson Cahill, Jennifer Devine, Deborah Levy and Kim Porio who each bring their professional performing arts background to the student, offering an unparalleled educational experience. 

Small, individually focused classes include Little Theatre (for ages 6 and under), Acting and Improv (for students in grades 1-12), Musical Theatre (grades 1-12), Acting for Film & TV (grades 4-8), Teen Dance (grades 9-12), as well as Private Voice (recommended for age 11 and up). Student productions include "Annie" (grades 1-8), which will be performed at Westport Country Playhouse in January 2013, "Lucky Stiff" (grades 6-12) and "Doctor Dolittle" (grades 1-5).
