Thrown Stone Announces 2018 Repertory Season Image

Thrown Stone's second season will feature two new world-class productions - The New England Premiere of The Arsonists by Jacqueline Goldfinger, and the East Coast Premiere of Where All Good Rabbits Go by Karina Cochran, performing in repertory at Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance from July 13-August 4.

Set deep in a Florida swamp, The Arsonists is a father-daughter tale of grief, loss and redemption. Inspired by the Greek tragedy Electra, this play with music is a contemporary American myth that explores the relationship between parent and child in that small space between death and life, the last breath before the awakening.

"I decided to write a love letter," says Goldfinger, "from a daughter to a father, filled with the laughter, fear, joy, hope and eternal love we have for our parents, both in life and in whatever comes next."

Walt and Julia are a promising young couple whose world takes a turn for the worse when Walt discovers the first sign of a terminal illness: a rabbit tail. Where All Good Rabbits Go is a beautiful meditation on illness, grief, personal transformation, and the frank realities of turning into a rabbit.

"My play aims to examine loss through the wacky, ridiculous lens of becoming a rabbit" says Cochran. "Death really is the biggest mystery we face as humans. I am hoping that by shifting the focus to something more playful we can learn something about grief and how we manage it."

Two of the most distinctive voices in the theatre today (Yale Drama Series Prize; Kennedy Center ACTF Playwriting Award) approach similar themes in the most divergent ways imaginable. Whether Bluegrass Greek Tragedy or Absurdist Allegory, these gripping, funny, humane stories soar with lyricism and urgency.

A RARE OPPORTUNITY

The repertory performs on a rotating schedule through August 4th. On Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22 and 28-29, both plays perform - one in the afternoon, the other in the evening - with a dinner break between, giving audiences a rare opportunity to enjoy the entire repertory in one day. Single admission is $59; a combo ticket for both plays is $98. Tickets won't be on sale until the new year, but gift certificates are available now at thrownstone.org/gift-certificate.
