TheatreWorks Announces New Educational Programs for Youths and Teens

By:

TheatreWorks New Milford's is now offering new opportunities for local youths to learn key performance techniques with a new course for kids ages 10 to 15 entitled STAGE ACTING FOR YOUTHS beginning Saturday April 6. Instructor Robin Frome, who has an MA in Dramatic Literature and a BFA in Acting, will be the instructor for this three week course taking place on Saturdays and Tuesdays. The course includes the basics of auditioning, improvisation, solo performance, stage dialects and Shakespeare with ample opportunity for individualized attention. These concepts and skills help strengthen the young thespian so that he or she has the abilities and confidence to pursue a performance career in high school and college theater, from first audition to final curtain. Fee is $125.00 for six classes.

STORYBOOK THEATRE for Ages 4 to 7 with veteran instructor Jill Pace follows on Saturday April 20 from 9 to 11 am. This workshop offers our youngest thespians a chance to leap into the world of favorite storybooks and explore how actors use their voices, their faces and their bodies to become those characters. Students will learn basic theatre terms and make a simple craft to take home and put on their own story book play! Fee $35.

On Saturday May 18 we are very excited to welcome Larry Engler of Poko Puppets (www.pokopuppets.com) with MAKING A PUPPET & BRINGING IT TO LIFE! who will demonstrate how to make a simple puppet using ordinary items such as paper plates, plastic bags, and other materials you likely have at home. Student will make their own puppet and also learn how to bring the it to life in this two hour workshop. The fee is just $75. Larry Engler is co-author of the book Making Puppets Come Alive (Dover Publications), which has won national awards from both The American Library Association and The Puppeteers of America. Larry has presented workshops in puppetry for over thirty years for schools all over the country and also at The Kennedy Center, The Wang Center, New York University, Adelphi University, The O'Neill Center, Smithsonian Institution, NY City Board of Education, and hundreds of other venues.

TheatreWorks welcomes back Broadway professionals Ben Simpson, Stephanie Klemons, Dan Micciche and Tony Award Nominee Robin DeJesus to teach a one day TRIPLE THREAT INTENSIVE to youths ages 12 to 18 on Saturday June 8 from 11:00 to 5:00 pm. This workshop promises a concentrated, rigorous and exciting theatre opportunity to focus on style, technique and performance quality.

Rounding out the season are two summer programs including YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN with instructor Amy Emke for grade school students and MAN OF LA MANCHA with professional choreographer Robert Bianca for teens. More information will follow.
