The Hartt School is pleased to announce the appointment of Nina Watt as Assistant Professor of Dance, effective September 1, 2010. Ms. Watt, a former Limón Dance Company principal dancer who was part of the Company for 30 years, toured internationally with the Company, performing in two State Department tours and at the White House. She was a Limón Company Artistic Associate for 14 years, danced major roles in the works of more than 25 choreographers, and made guest artist appearances in the United States and abroad.

"Nina Watt is a teaching artist of incredible depth and international renown. We are fortunate and thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to develop under her caring guidance," Hartt Dance Division Director Stephen Pier said of Watt's appointment. "I am sure she will be an inspiration and a very rich resource for the Dance Division and for the entire Hartt School."

After retiring from the Company, she danced in four projects with Doug Varone, including at The Metropolitan Opera, Jacob's Pillow, and the Wolftrap National Parks Film Project. Critically cited as "the perfect Limón dancer," "a dancer of genius," and "one of the most important modern dancers of her generation," Ms. Watt is a 2002 recipient of the New York Dance and Performance Award for Sustained Achievement. She currently teaches Limón technique and stages José Limón's repertory worldwide.

Ms. Watt holds a BA from Empire State College/SUNY, and is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst.
