Sherman Playhouse Seeks Two Men & Three Women For GASLIGHT, Auditions Held 7/27, 7/28

By:

The Sherman Playhouse is seeking two men, ages 35 to 60 and three women, ages 18 to 50 for its fall production of the classic thriller GASLIGHT, by Patrick Hamilton.

Set in 1880's London, GASLIGHT tells the demoniacal story of the Manninghams of Angel Street. Under the guise of kindliness, handsome Mr. Manningham is torturing his wife into madness. He accuses her of petty goings-on in the home that she is unaware of, and since Mrs. Manningham's mother died of insanity, Mrs. Manningham slowly convinces herself that she is also going out of her mind. While her husband is out of the house, a benign police inspector visits her and a series of terrifying truths begin to unfold, setting off a life-and-death game of cat-and-mouse. The play was the basis for two films, most notably the 1944 movie starring Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, and Joseph Cotten.

GASLIGHT is under the direction of John Taylor of Sherman.

Auditions will be held Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All auditions will take place at The Sherman Playhouse, located at 5 Route 39 North (the intersection of Route 37 and 39), in Sherman, Conn.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Auditioners should bring a current headshot and resume. All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome.

Visit WWW.THESHERMANPLAYHOUSE.ORG or call 860-354-3622 for directions or more information.

Rehearsals begin August 17 (usually Monday through Thursday evenings) with performances running from September 18 to October 10 on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as Sunday, September 27.

The Sherman Playhouse is a local theatre company located on 5 Route 39 North (at the intersection of Route 37 and 39) in Sherman, Conn.
