Shakespeare Academy Presents Summer Repertory In Stratford, CT

Shakespeare Academy at Stratford (SA@S) presents The Winter's Tale and Coriolanus rotating repertory from July 27th to August 4th. SA@S is a summer Shakespeare training program for actors. This year, 14 actors from around the world have been living, training, and rehearsing in historic Stratford, CT. For six weeks, the ensemble studies Shakespeare's text, stage combat, and various movement and voice techniques with professional masterclass teachers. The Winter's Tale and Coriolanus are professionally directed and designed, allowing the training of these skillful young actors to shine through.

In Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, directed by SA@S Artistic Director Sara Holdren, King Leontes suspects his wife Hermione of infidelity. His cruel jealousy sets in motion a fantastical, redemptive fairy tale that crosses sixteen years and two countries, ranging from tragedy to comedy to ultimate grace. The Winter's Tale will be performed on July 28th and 30th, and August 1st, 3rd, and 4th at 7:30 pm. (Please note: The Winter's Tale features a moment in which the audience will be asked to move, so we recommend leaving large bags at home and coming prepared to walk a short distance! If you need to make special arrangements regarding mobility, please email us here and we will help you out.)

In Coriolanus, directed by Resident Director Benjamin Curns, the citizens demand bread. The noblemen give them a war hero instead. A bloody, boiling tale of populism, power, deadly arrogance, and civil strife. Coriolanus will be performed on July 27th, 29th, and 31st, and August 2nd at 6:30 pm; and on August 1st at 1:00 pm.

Both performances take place outside on the grounds of the former American Festival Shakespeare Theatre (1850 Elm Street Stratford, CT). Seating is provided-please do not bring your own chairs. Each show will run 90 minutes, without intermission. Reserved seating is available for $10 online (through Eventbrite). Tickets are FREE on the day of the show and subject to availability. Seating is first come, first served. Reserve your tickets today.
