Long Wharf Theatre to Stage Julia Cho's OFFICE HOUR This Winter

Long Wharf Theatre, in conjunction with Berkeley Rep, presents Office Hour, by Julia Cho, directed by Lisa Peterson.

Performances take place January 17 through February 11, 2018 on Stage II. Tickets start at $29. The press opening will take place Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 7:30 pm.

The cast includes Daniel Chung (Dennis), Jackie Chung (Gina), Jeremy Kahn (David), and Kerry Warren (Genevieve). The creative team includes Matt Saunders (set design), Maggie Morgan (costume design), Scott Zielinski (lighting design), Rob Kaplowitz (original music and sound design), Chris Waters (stage manager), Calleri Casting (casting.)

A college student hides behind dark glasses, a baseball cap pulled low, and writings that disturb and provoke. Is he just venting or is he really troubled? Gina, his writing professor, is the only one willing to get close, to try to understand what the student is going through. But at what peril to herself? The newest play from Obie Award-winning playwright Julia Cho is a thrilling ride through the psyches of two people learning to empathize with one another. "Office Hour has undeniable topicality ... This is a small play, but before you realize it, its rippling current has taken you far from the safety of shore," said the Los Angeles Times.

Daniel Chung, playing Dennis, is making his Long Wharf Theatre debut. He has appeared on stage in Flim-Flam (Theatre Rhinoceros), Real Talk (New Conservatory Theatre Center), and Crash, Immunity, and Marie, all with PlayGround.

Jackie Chung, playing Gina, returns to Long Wharf Theatre, previously appearing as one the nurses in Macbeth 1969. Other appearances include Tiger Style (La Jolla Playhouse), Different Words for the Same (Center Theater Group), Brownville Song (Humana Festival), Fast Company (South Coast Rep), and Mother Courage (The Public Theater), among others. She has appeared on television in "Grey's Anatomy," "Deadbeat," and "Finding My America."

Jeremy Kahn (David) made recent appearances in Peerless (Marin Theatre Company), Baskerville (Center Repertory Theatre), The Rover (Shotgun Players), Peter and the Starcatcher (Theatreworks), Wittenberg (Aurora Theatre Company), among many others.

Kerry Warren (Genevieve) has appeared on Broadway in The River. Her off-Broadway appearances include This is How it Ends, Much Ado About Nothing, and Good Grief. Her regional credits include Twelfth Night and Book of Will (Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival), Romeo and Juliet (Dallas Theater Center), The Originalist (Arena Stage), and Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike (Baltimore Centerstage). Her television credits include "Broad City."

Long Wharf Theatre and Sandy Hook Promise will partner to offer a series of conversations and programs surrounding the production. The mission of Sandy Hook Promise is to prevent gun violence (and other forms of violence and victimization) before it happens by educating and mobilizing youth and adults on mental health and wellness programs that identify, intervene and help at-risk individuals.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Julia Cho (Playwright) Julia Cho's plays include Aubergine, The Language Archive, The Piano Teacher, Durango, The Winchester House, BFE, The Architecture of Loss and 99 Histories. They have been produced in New York at Playwrights Horizons, Roundabout Theatre Company, The Public Theater, The Vineyard Theatre and New York Theatre Workshop, and regionally at theaters such as South Coast Repertory, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Recent honors include the Will Glickman Award and the Susan Smith Blackburn Award. Julia has developed work for HBO and TNT and most recently was a writer/producer on AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire." She studied playwriting at Amherst College, New York University and The Juilliard School and is an alumna of New Dramatists.
