The Hole in the Wall Theater (HITW) in New Britain, CT will present LINT! The Musical written by local playwrights, William Arnold and Scott Auden. Performances run Fridays & Saturdays from January 22nd through February 13th at 8:00pm with one Sunday matinee on January 31st at 2:00pm. LINT! The Musical is under the direction of James DeMarco and Stephanie DeMarco (both from New Britain) with music direction by Bill Arnold (Windsor). Tickets are $25.00 (General Admission) and $20.00 (students & seniors). They can be purchased at the door and online at www.hitw.org. The January 29th performance will be our Pay-What-You-Can performance where you name the price of your ticket.

Co-Director, James DeMarco describes Auden and Arnold's work as "a meta-theatrical lampooning of musical theater tropes." The main character, Phoebe (Christina Giannelli of Middletown), finds herself in a unique situation - she is trapped in a musical. She tries to escape by taking a job in a Laundromat. Everything is fine until one day Phoebe looks up and sees the audience, the lights, everything. "It's a lot of fun playing her," said Christina. "She is very sarcastic. I, personally, am very sarcastic, but usually at my own expense."

An eclectic assortment of characters helps Phoebe through her journey. Biz, Fab, and Cheer, three muses, explain to her that there is no escaping this musical until she finishes the show and follows the rules to get there. Reluctantly, Phoebe enlists the help of Gary, a pathetic cuckold who was just minding his own business. Jack and Jill enter and the race to finish the musical begins. They encounter Heinrich von Baddie, Phoebe's boss and the representation of villainy in the play. Faced with impending doom (and marriage) Phoebe and her new friends sing themselves through many different emotions and stories, culminating in the classic confrontation of good and evil: a landlord wearing lederhosen and a government agent wearing a jet-pack.

LINT! The Musical made its official premiere at Hole in the Wall Theater in January 2003. Although the script and score have remained mostly intact, Co-Director Stephanie DeMarco says, "This isn't the original show. It's a different cast giving different performances."

"This show is so much funnier than you remember," said James. "It you haven't seen it, get ready for a ride."

The HITW cast includes: Joshua Ives, Michele Covert and Anne Collin (all from New Britain), Christina Giannelli (Middletown), Kevin Liftig (Cromwell), Meghan Rickard (Southington), Mairin McKinlay (Cheshire), Randy Boyd (Enfield) and Stephen Maher (West Hartford).

About Hole in the Wall Theater:

Hole in the Wall Theater (HITW) has been a leader and beacon in the Greater Hartford arts community since 1972. It is an award-winning, non-profit community theater and staffed entirely by volunteers.

HITW was founded by Ray Shinn and Ted Guhl; both of whom were instrumental in the theater's mission and longevity. It is HITW's goal to present theater to all regardless of resources. Unique in its creation as well as the manner in which it was run, HITW was the only theater in the state to run solely by its members through its biweekly gatherings, termed "General Meeting." General Meeting is responsible for choosing the plays presented, maintaining the physical plant, and creating, revising, and upholding the philosophy by which HITW was run.

Over the course of four decades, the theater has seen many homes throughout New Britain including Oak Street, North Street, Harvard Street, and its current home on Main Street. Despite its location, the philosophy of presenting Quality Theater to everyone remains the same.
