Joachim, Pressley, Chung & Anderson Set for This Week's STATE OF THE ARTS on WPKN-FM

Flutist Nathalie Joachim, actor Brenda Pressley and filmmakers Lee Isaac Chung & Samuel Gray Anderson headline this week's (Friday, April 8) State of the ARTS which airs LIVE every Friday from 12noon to 1pm on WPKN-FM (89.5) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Co-hosts of the weekly arts & entertainment program are Richard Pheneger and Peggy Nelson.

Nathalie Joachim is the flutist with eighth blackbird, the Chicago-based, three-time Grammy Award-winning sextet of "super-musicians" (LA Times), which blends the finesse of a string quartet, the energy of a rock band and the audacity of a storefront theater company. eighth blackbird performs on Thursday, April 21 (2016) at 8pm at the Quick Center on the campus of Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Actor Brenda Pressley appears as the 101-year old Dr Bessie Delaney in the highly acclaimed production of Having Our Say: The Delaney Sisters' First 100 Years, which traces their history as daughters of a former slave, grew up in Jim Crow South, lived in Harlem during its renaissance and had professional careers as a teacher and dentist. Having Our Say is currently playing at the Hartford Stage Company in Hartford, Connecticut now through April 24 (2016).

Award-winning filmmakers Lee Isaac Chung and Samuel Gray Anderson will be in residence at Grace Farms in New Canaan, Connecticut on April 15 & 16 (2016). The filmmakers will present their film "Munyurangabo," described as "a masterpiece" by the late film critic Roger Ebert, on Friday, April 15 at 7:30pm. This subtitled Kinyarwandan-language film tells the story of two young Rwandan boys, journeying together in the aftermath of national trauma. Then on Saturday, April 16 at2pm the filmmakers will premiere their newest film "I Have Seen My Last Born," which tells the story of Jean Kwezi, a man who survived the wars that marked Eastern Congo and Rwanda in the 1980s and 1990s. Both films will be followed by Q&As with the filmmakers. Grace Farms is located at 365 Lukes Wood Road in New Canaan, Connecticut.

State of the ARTS, featuring arts and entertainment personalities, airs LIVE each Friday from 12noon-1pm on WPKN-FM located at 89.5 and streams worldwide online at wpkn.org.
