Jen Chapin is delighted to make her debut at The Kate, while in the midst of preparations to record a new album of original songs (spring release 2013), produced by 5 time Grammy Award-winning mixer/engineer/producer Kevin Killen (who has worked with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Jewel, Elvis Costello, Bobby McFerrin, Tori Amos, Kate Bush and many others). Jen also very recently released an EP Five Songs and a Jen Chapin Trio LIVE album in tribute to her late great dad, Harry Chapin, called "Celebrating Harry's 70th". "This little CD is nothing fancy," Jen says, "but it does capture some heartfelt performances of five of Harry's tunes, and a few of mine, before a warm and wonderful audience."

Jen Chapin's jazz-tinged music is urban folk soul - story songs that search for community and shared meaning, powered by the funk and improvisation of the city. Critics have hailed her work as "brilliant.. soulfully poetic" (NPR), "thoughtful.. worth-savoring" (People), "addictive" (Boston Globe), "smart, observant, lyrically deft, politically aware and emotionally intuitive" (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). She has been featured on "Late Nite with Conan O'Brien," honored by the USA Songwriting Competition, appeared on stage with Bruce Springsteen, and opened up for Bruce Hornsby and the Neville Brothers. Chapin's performances are powerful, spotlighting the world-class musicianship and rare chemistry of Grammy-nominated acoustic bassist/husband Stephan Crump, "unflappable melodist" (New York Times) Jamie Fox, "singular" (Village Voice) Liberty Ellman (guitarists) and "highly regarded" (All Music) drummer Dan Reiser.
