Goodspeed Musicals Launches National Search for Shelter Dog to Star in ANNIE
William Berloni Theatrical Animals, who trained the original Sandy, leads the search at the East Haddam, Conn. venue.
Goodspeed Musicals and William Berloni Theatrical Animals have launched a national search for the next shelter dog to play Annie's beloved sidekick Sandy in Goodspeed Musicals' 50th Anniversary production of Annie this fall. The selected dog from the Search for Sandy will perform in the show, be adopted by Berloni and live at his home in Connecticut.
Berloni, a renowned animal trainer, found and trained the original Sandy for Goodspeed's world premiere production of Annie in 1976 and is returning 50 years later to bring Goodspeed the next four-legged star. The search will also spotlight the ongoing need for pet adoption and encourage others to open their homes to a furry friend.
Shelters are invited to nominate a dog in their care. Requirements include that the dog is mixed breed, medium size with beige coloring that is intelligent, outgoing and extremely friendly. For a full list of requirements and for shelters to submit dogs for consideration to the Search for Sandy, please visit www.goodspeed.org/search-for-sandy. Submissions will be responded to within a few days. If you have questions, please email sandy@goodspeed.org.
The 50th Anniversary production of Annie will run October 30 – December 27 at The Goodspeed in East Haddam, Connecticut. Tickets are available through the Box Office (860.873.8668), open seven days a week at 11:00 a.m., or online at goodspeed.org
