Eastbound Theatre Announces Auditions For THIRD

Eastbound Theatre, a division of the Milford Arts Council, announces auditions for the final show of its 24th season, the compelling and complex Third by Wendy Wasserstein, directed by Nancy A. Herman.

Performances will be June 1st through June 17th, 2018. Auditions will be held on March 7th and 8th, 2018 at 7:00 pm at the Milford Center for the Arts (40 Railroad Avenue South). Additionally, interested actors who are unable to attend those audition times should contact the Director at nahshell33@aol.com to set up an alternate time.

Roles are available for 2 Men (aged 20s to 80s) and 3 Woman (aged 20s to 50s). Actors will be asked to read from the script. Actors interested in reviewing the script in advance should contact the Director at nahshell33@aol.com.

Synopsis: Third by Wendy Wasserstein takes place at a small, liberal arts college during one academic year. The story focuses on Laurie Jameson, a professor who has made her name teaching feminist literary criticism, and whose life and fundamental assumptions are challenged when Woodson Bull III - a polite, white, male student from the mid-west - shows up in her class.The professor and the student have deeply divergent personal and political views, and because of these differences, the professor finds it hard to believe that the student has written the sophisticated essay on King Lear for which he claims authorship. Posing thoughtful questions about stereotyping and identity politics, the play also explores generational and family issues as Jameson encounters personal struggles with her rebellious daughter, her distant husband, and her aging father.

Third is the final play written by Wendy Wasserstein, a much-heralded Pulitzer prize-winning playwright whose works include The Heidi Chronicles, Isn't it Romantic, The Sisters Rosensweig, and others. In Third there are no outright good or bad characters, but just richly drawn, complex individuals who are grappling with the vicissitudes of life.

Roles Available: Laurie Jameson: an attractive woman in her 50's. Very confident, articulate, powerful. Emily Imbrie: Jameson's college-age daughter Nancy Gordon: a colleague of Jameson's; mid-40's to mid-50's. Battling cancer. Woodson Bull, III: athletic, preppy-looking, boyish young man about 20 years old Jack Jameson: Laurie's father who has Alzheimers. 75 - 85 years of age.
