Dorothy Lyman Named Artistic Director of TheatreWorks New Milford
The Connecticut theater company welcomes the acclaimed actress and director to its leadership team.
Two-time Emmy Award winner Dorothy Lyman has been named Artistic Director for the 2027 season at TheatreWorks New Milford by the theatre's Board of Directors.
An active volunteer, Ms. Lyman, who joined the Board in 2025, said, “After robust regional community support for my original play Upstate, I'm excited to bring a broad theatrical, television and movie experience to New Milford's historic live performance theatre.”
After her Emmy© Award-winning performances as Opal Gardner on All My Children, she is also widely known for her co-starring role on Mama's Family, alongside Vicki Lawrence, Carol Burnett and Betty White. Ms. Lyman also directed 75 episodes of Fran Drescher's sitcom, The Nanny.
Ms. Lyman's directing career began when she produced and directed the original off-Broadway hit production of A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking, starring Susan Sarandon and Eileen Brennan.
Currently she is co-producer, along with fellow TW Board member Keli Solomon, of this summer's 10-minute play festival, Summer Shorts, August 13th to 16th.
Ms. Lyman is involved with the monthly “TW Playwright's Workshop” group and facilitates Page 2 Stage the quarterly Sunday afternoon readings program. She is mentoring New Milford's own Kay Mickelson's original play as part of the Yale Ventures, Collective CT program. Ms. Lyman lives in Washington Depot, CT and can be found volunteering many evenings at many TheatreWorks productions.
