Classical Guitarist Miloš Karadaglic to Play Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, 11/3

By:

Montenegrin guitarist Miloš Karadagli? will play a program that will explore the Euro-Arabian world his instrument comes from in a concert Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the UConn campus.

Miloš, as he is known best, was named the 2011 Gramophone “Young Artist of the Year.” His debut album, The Guitar/Mediterráneo, topped classical charts around the world in 2011 and sold more than 150,000 copies. His sophomore album, Latino/Pasión, was released in June 2012.

Miloš will play a program that begins with a Bach suite then travels through works by Hector Villa Lobos, Jorge Cardoso, Jorge Morei, Leo Brouwer, Isaias Savio and Carlo Domeniconi. His virtuosity on guitar has been likened to that of Andres Segovia, Julian Bream and John Williams.

His 2012-2013 season is marked by debut performances with the BBC Proms, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Atlanta Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Indianapolis Symphony. He has recently appeared at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Théatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris and the Lucerne Festival and has played concertos with the London Philharmonic and English Chamber Orchestras. In 2010 he was among the first classical musicians asked to play at the iTunes Festival.

Born in Montenegro in 1983, Miloš grew up against the background of the Balkan civil war. He began learning the guitar at the age of 8 and quickly rose to national prominence before winning a scholarship to London’s Royal Academy of Music at age 16.

WFCR/New England Public Radio sponsors Miloš’ Jorgensen performance.

Jorgensen was recently named Best College/University Performing Arts Center in the Hartford Advocate Best of Hartford Readers’ Poll for 2012 and “Best Cabaret” in 2011 and 2012 by Connecticut Magazine.
