A CHORUS LINE, THE SUNSHINE BOYS and GYPSY Make Up Connecticut Rep's 2014 Nutmeg Summer Series, 6/5-7/20

Artistic Director Vincent J. Cardinal is pleased to announce Connecticut Repertory Theatre's (CRT) 2014 Nutmeg Summer Series. The three show season celebrates life backstage and behind the curtain. Two award winning musicals; A Chorus Line and Gypsy are matched with Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys, a comedy starring Jerry Adler (The Good Wife) and Richard Kline (Three's Company). The Nutmeg Summer Series runs June 5 through July 20, 2014 in the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre on the University of Connecticut-Storrs campus. Subscriptions to all three productions are now on sale. Single tickets will go on sale April 15, 2014.

The season kicks-off June 5-14, 2014 with the Pulitzer Prize-winning American musical, A Chorus Line. This backstage story of 17 aspiring dancers pairs heart-stopping, toe-tapping performances with soaring ballads, all against the backdrop of the ups and downs of a life in show business. This nine-time Tony-Award winning musical from the pen of legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch brings to life the dream, the thrill and the hope of anyone who's ever had a dream and put it all on the line.

Tony Award nominee Jerry Adler returns to the CRT stage, along with TV's Richard Kline, in his CRT debut, to star in Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys June 19-29, 2014. Jerry Adler, of The Soprano's, Rescue Me, and The Good Wife, was last seen on CRT's stage in 2012's hysterical world-premiere of I'm Connecticut. Richard Kline, best known for playing Larry Dallas on the television sitcom Three's Company, made his Broadway debut in City of Angels and was featured as The Wizard in the first national tour of WICKED. The Sunshine Boys affectionately and hilariously tells the story of Lewis and Clark, vaudeville's undisputed Kings of Comedy, as they reunite an once-in-a-lifetime television special. The only problem is they haven't spoken in 40 years and the shtick hits the fan when old grudges begin horning in on the act.

The season ends with one of the great masterpieces of musical theatre, Gypsy: A Musical Fable July 10-20, 2014. Soaring with Jule Styne's melodies and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics, GYPSY is based on the memoirs of the famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, and tells the story of Rose, the ultimate stage mother, and her dream to raise her daughters to become stars and thus gain fulfillment for her own failed venture into show business. In real life, Louise became Gypsy Rose Lee and Baby June, movie star June Havoc. Mama Rose has become arguably the greatest female role in musical theatre due to its emotion, complexity and powerful songs.

Evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Matinee performances start at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Subscription package options range from $30 to $93. Single ticket prices range from $10 to 43. Connecticut Repertory Theatre has made bringing the kids more affordable than ever. Add a Child/Student subscription to any adult subscription for just $30 - only $10 per ticket. Children must be at least 4 years old to attend CRT productions. A Chorus Line is not suitable for young children.
