Soprano Latonia Moore adds to her appearances with The Cleveland Orchestra in 2022. Originally scheduled to join the Orchestra during its Miami residency, Moore steps in to perform George Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning Lilacs on a program that also includes works by Strauss and Haydn.

Richard Strauss’s comic opera Der Rosenkavalier is a delicate treatment of a sensitive subject — how youth and age do, or do not, mix in the arena of love. It was a sensation at the time of its premiere, and this Suite (compiled by music director Franz Welser-Möst) is filled with the opera’s delectable waltzes and passages of ravishing beauty. Walker’s Lilacs is based on Walt Whitman's poem “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd,” a poignant elegy to Abraham Lincoln.

*This program replaces the previously announced Mendelssohn's Reformation, featuring the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. This program change is based on concerns about the safety of the Chorus gathering and rehearsing in the coming weeks amid the continued steady increase of Covid-19 cases and a high transmission rating from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
