Schreiber to Host New Globe Theater Shakespeare Gala Featuring Light, Plunkett, Sanders and More 10/27

On Monday, October 27th, at 8:00pm the New Globe Theater presents SHAKESPEARE IN THE BRAVE NEW WORLD (from the Colonies to Bart Simpson) at NYU Skirball Center.

This benefit follows the story of Shakespeare in America - beginning with first performances in the colonies in 1730; to the Astor Place Riots in 1849, when 22 died over the correct theatrical interpretation of Macbeth; to Shakespeare's influence on Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain (including a reading from "Huck Finn" with the duke enacting Hamlet's soliloquy); to a 1910 silent film of Twelfth Night with actors performing the voice over on stage; to the American musical with performances from Swingin' The Dream, The Boys From Syracuse, Kiss Me, Kate and Illyria ; to "the Lion King", "10 Things I Hate About You" and Bart Simpson doing Hamlet.

The evening is hosted by Tony Award winner Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate, RKO 281, Everything Is Illuminated, Hamlet, Henry V, Macbeth, Othello), with appearances and performances by David Alan Basche (The Starter Wife, Lipstick Jungle, Twelfth Night), Jonathan Cake (Broadway's Cymbeline, Medea, and Coriolanus at Shakespeare's Globe), Peter Francis James (The Lady from Dubuque with Dame Maggie Smith, Stuff Happens, HBO's Oz, and the upcoming films The Messenger and The Rebound), James Lesure (Lipstick Jungle, Las Vegas, Macbeth), Emmy winner Judith Light (Claire Meade on Ugly Betty, Who's The Boss?, and the upcoming film Save Me), Manu Narayan (Broadway's Bombay Dreams, The Love Guru opposite Mike Myers, The Boys From Syracuse), Will & Anthony Nunziata (concerts with Boston Pops, Cleveland Pops, Colorado Symphony), Tony Award winner Maryann Plunkett (A Man For All Seasons opposite Frank Langella, Broadway's Sunday in the Park with George, The Crucible), Alysia Reiner (Rosalind in As You Like It, TV's The Starter Wife, Puppy Love), Juliet Rylance (Romeo and Juliet, Winter's Tale at Shakespeare's Globe), Jay O.
