PlayhouseSquare's 2009-2010 Season Goes On Sale 9/11

PlayhouseSquare is the place to be September 11 as the schedule of events is expected to fill the neighborhood with bustling activity. The excitement happening at PlayhouseSquare is a unique concentration of events that collectively represent the not-for-profit organization's mission of serving the community by presenting world-class performing arts productions, fostering leading-edge education programs and spurring economic development by creating traffic-driving destination events.

Events occurring at PlayhouseSquare September 11, 2009 include:

*7th Annual DANCE SHOWCASE

The entire 2009-10 PlayhouseSquare season, including Broadway, dance, concerts, comedy and family shows, will go on sale to the public on September 11th (with the exception of The Phantom of the Opera). During the "Witching Hour" (12 p.m. to 1 p.m.), tickets purchased at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office (1519 Euclid Ave.) will have no handling fees compliments of the Broadway blockbuster Wicked. In celebration of Wicked's return, Clevelanders are encouraged to paint themselves as green as Elphaba or wear a Wicked t-shirt and green glasses. The first 100 people to purchase tickets at the Ticket Office will receive a free Wicked ball cap.

PlayhouseSquare kicks off its 2009-10 season with the opportunity for one lucky theater fan to win tickets to every Palace Theatre engagement at PlayhouseSquare from October 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. Everyone who purchases tickets between 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11 and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 13 will automatically be entered to win the "Star for a Year at PlayhouseSquare" package. The package includes two VIP tickets to all Palace Theatre season engagements from October 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010, including Young Frankenstein, Mamma Mia!, Dave Koz and Friends: A Smooth Jazz Christmas, Jim Brickman, Chicago, In the Heights, Xanadu, The Golden Boys, August: Osage County, Pilobolus Dance Theater, Grease and Fiddler on the Roof. The package also includes free parking, cast party invitations, gift certificates to PlayhouseSquare District restaurants, a private backstage tour and much more.

The 10th annual PlayhouseSquare District Block Party & Tour is set for Friday, September 11, from 5:30-9:30 p.m., on Star Plaza, located at Euclid Avenue and East 14th Street. The event features the entertainment presented by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance Sparx Concert Series, including live music by State Fair and Cats on Holiday. The walking tour will take guests through the newly renovated Wyndham Cleveland at PlayhouseSquare, the new Liggett Stashower Brand Building space, and a stop to shop and party at M Lang Executive Attire and Lounge. Rounding out the evening are signature dishes by PlayhouseSquare restaurants, tasty Johnsonville Brats on the grill, Shearer's snacks, a cash bar and prizes. Tickets are $25 each, and can be purchased online at www.playhousesquare.org or at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office.

The 7th Annual Dance Showcase at PlayhouseSquare features seven of Northeast Ohio's best professional dance companies (Antaeus Dance, Dance/Theater Collective, The Dancing Wheels Company, Inlet Dance Theatre, Ohio Dance Theater, Travesty Dance Group and Verb Ballets). The performance will be held at 7 p.m. on September 11th in the Ohio Theatre and is free to the public.
