PlayhouseSquare to Host Free Tour on 7/13
The next free tour of PlayhouseSquare's historic 1921 theaters will be conducted Saturday, July 13th. (This date is a departure from the normally scheduled tours which fall on the first Saturday of each month.)
Peeks backstage and from the stage, along with fascinating facts and anecdotes from the past 90+ years, make PlayhouseSquare's FREE theater tours an engaging morning for the entire family and especially for theater buffs or students of art or architecture. All that is required is a good pair of walking shoes and approximately 90 minutes.
Tours begin in the State Theatre Lobby (1519 Euclid Ave.) at 10 am, leaving at 15-minute intervals until 11:30 am. Tour guests are invited to bring their cameras.
No reservations are needed for individual participants, but groups of 10-or-more are asked to call ahead at 216-771-4444 so arrangements can be made for their group.
Private tours for companies, social groups or high school reunion groups may be arranged for other days and hours by calling 216-771-4444.
2013 PLAYHOUSESQUARE TOUR DATES:
July 13; Aug. 3; Sept. 7; Oct. 5; Nov. 2
The 10 stages that comprise The PlayhouseSquare complex qualify it as the largest performing arts center outside New York. PlayhouseSquare is also the "largest theater restoration project in the world," and its State Theatre Lobby is famous in art circles as the home of four murals by famous American modernist James Daugherty (who died in 1974 at 84). The murals are the last Daugherty works that remain in the original location in which they were painted.
