Individual Concert Tickets For The 2018-19 Cleveland Orchestra Season Go On Sale Next Month Individual concert tickets for The Cleveland Orchestra's 2018-19 Season, which marks the beginning of a Second Century of musical excellence, go on sale on Monday, August 13, 2018, online at clevelandorchestra.com, by phone at 216-231-1111, and in person at the Severance Hall Ticket Office. The coming season is the 17th year of the Orchestra's acclaimed partnership with Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. Under his leadership, The Cleveland Orchestra has become one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world, setting standards of extraordinary artistic excellence, creative programming and community engagement. The New York Times has declared it "... the best in America" for its virtuosity, elegance of sound, variety of color and chamber-like musical cohesion.

Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra open the Orchestra's 101st season on September 20 and 22 with the World Premiere of "Pantheon" by Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Principal Oboe Jeffrey Rathbun, the U.S. Premiere of Hans Abrahamsen's "Left, alone," and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. Additional highlights of the 2018-19 season include a made-for-Cleveland production of Richard Strauss's Ariadne Auf Naxos, which is being performed for the first time in the Orchestra's history January 13, 17 and 19, and Mahler's Symphony No. 2 ("Resurrection") on October 4, 5, and 6. Franz Welser-Möst is also "particularly excited by the works by Schubert and Prokofiev this coming season. They represent some of these great composer's best music, which is too often neglected and is ready for re-discovery." These works include Prokofiev's Symphony Nos. 1 and 3 on September 27 and 30, Schubert's Symphony No. 4 ("Tragic") on March 21 and March 23, and his Mass No. 6 on May 16, 17, and 18.

"At the Movies," Family Concert Series supported by the Weiss Family Foundation, PNC Music Explorers, and More

The 2018-19 season also features the popular "At the Movies" series (sponsored by PNC Bank), the KeyBank Fridays@7 series, the Family Concert Series supported by the Weiss Family Foundation, and PNC Music Explorers series. The traditional Cleveland Orchestra Christmas Concerts (sponsored by Dollar Bank) will be conducted by Richard Kaufman and will begin on December 14 and run through December 23, 2018.

On Saturday, September 29, Franz Welser-Möst and pianist Lang Lang perform a special 100th Anniversary Gala concert. The program features Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24, works by Richard and Johann Strauss, and Ravel's La Valse [The Waltz]. Lang Lang first performed with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Festival in 2000 and at Severance Hall in 2002. The Cleveland Orchestra's annual gala supports the Orchestra's education and community programs which share the value and joy of music with people throughout Northeast Ohio. America's preeminent performing arts television series Great Performances in association with ideastream will record the September 29 concert for an exclusive U.S. television broadcast on PBS slated for 2019.
