Director of Finance - McCarter Theatre Center

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time; Annual; Exempt

REPORTS TO: Managing Director



The Director of Finance employs strategic thinking and analytical processes to manage the Finance department at McCarter. The position has primary responsibility and oversight for all accounting functions including institutional budgets, forecasts, annual audit, and internal controls. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Director of Finance works collaboratively with the entire senior staff to support McCarter's institutional goals and mission.



Principal Job Responsibilities:

- Oversee all accounting functions, including but not limited to: budget, forecasting, internal controls, accounts payable, payroll, cash flow, audit, investments, and fundraising budgeting and reporting.

- Ensure that the organization maintains accurate financial records that are in compliance with current regulations.

- Produce transparent reports.

- Manage the institutional budgeting process; develop and distribute budget and forecast schedules and statements to senior staff.

- Support the work of the Board Finance and Audit Committees; attend committee meetings; develop and provide reports for committee members.

- Work with the Development department to develop grant applications; manage grant reporting.

- Manage the audit process; prepare the financials and audit schedules and collect the required documentation for the audited financials and the IRS 990 report.

- Oversee the payroll function; ensure that accurate information is produced.

- Manage cash flow; project cash flow needs; monitor the cash balances and initiate loans from the working capital line of credit as needed.

- Manage the banking relationships; resolve credit card processing issues.

- Produce outside reporting, including reports to TCG.

- Hire and supervise Finance department staff.

Qualifications & Requirements:

- Minimum of (5) years' experience in a financial management leadership position at a non-profit organization (performing arts preferred).

- Experience and demonstrated skill using software and web-based applications that support and inform the Finance department, including Great Plains, Tessitura, Microsoft Office Suite, and ADP (or similar).

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Effective personnel management.

- Final candidate must successfully complete a background check.

- Preference is given to candidates who have demonstrable experience advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion.



Compensation:
