Costume Shop Manager - Orlando Repertory Theatre

Orlando Repertory Theatre, a professional theatre for young audiences and families, is seeking a full time Costume Shop Manager.



Basic Purpose and Objective of the Role:

The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Costume Shop for Orlando Repertory Theatre including, but is not limited to: managing the execution of costume designs for all productions, department budgeting, costume shop personnel, and maintaining the costume inventory. To serve as a positive representative for Orlando REP in the community with a commitment to provide “The Finest in Family Theatre!” The Costume Shop Manager reports to the Production Manager.



Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide costume support to all events and activities sponsored by Orlando REP.

• Manage all spaces within the assigned area of costuming.

• Work closely with the designers in the execution of their designs.

• Supervise and participate in the construction, alteration, repair, cleaning, maintenance, inventory, and storage of costumes.

• Act as shopper/buyer for productions as needed.

• Track and report all expenses associated with the operation of the costume shop, including purchases, maintenance, and personnel.

• Maintain up-to-date budget information concerning each production.

• Work closely with other members of the staff to ensure a smooth operation between departments.

• Retain confidentiality on all aspects related to the company, performers, and staff.

• Track and report all rental costumes and collect fees.

• Train and manage the full-time and part-time costume shop staff including interns and volunteers.

• Assist in integrating UCF’s MFA students and interns throughout the Orlando REP organization.

• Maintain Orlando REP’s inventory of costumes and ensure these items are stored in a clean and orderly manner.

• Ensure that show costumes are maintained in a clean and usable manner during the run of the show.

• Work occasional nights and weekends.

• In conjunction with the production staff maintain a safe, efficient, organized, and clean working environment of all shop and production operations.



Required Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret costume renderings.

• Strong understanding of design and construction of costumes.

• Experience in cutting, draping, dyeing, pattern making, measurements, alterations, painting, costume crafts, make-up, and wigs.

• Strong and demonstrated ability to collaborate with a production team.

• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and follow schedules.

• Demonstrated leadership and management skills.

• Ability to remain calm and collected under pressure.

• Represent an example of honesty and integrity.

• Strong written and verbal communications.

• Strong budget and cost controls skills.

• Ability to work independently.



Experience:

• Three to five years experience in a theatrical costume shop at a graduate or professional level.

• Degree in Theatrical Costuming (BA or BFA) is preferred or equivalent professional experience.
