?Primary Function: The Librarian and Projects Assistant holds a dual role at the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. This position spends 50% of their time in the CSO library assisting with librarian duties, including acquiring and transferring bowings, marking cuts, scanning documents, and setting-up/collecting music for rehearsals and concerts. When not performing work in the library, this position assists in an administrative/project-based capacity within other CSO departments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Librarian Assistant Duties
Assists the Principal Librarian in preparing each concert series, this includes assisting in acquiring bowings, transferring bowings, marking cuts, creating new parts when necessary, scanning practice parts for string players, scanning music as necessary.
Disassembles program folders, properly files CSO materials and returns non-CSO materials in a timely manner.
Arrives one hour early for assigned rehearsals and concerts to execute stage set-up and address any needs.
Sets conductor’s scores; distributes and collects music at concerts and rehearsals.
Projects Assistant Duties
Performs projects as assigned. Projects may include doing research, creating reports, providing updates, composing letters and emails, and other administrative tasks.
Assists in the departments of Fundraising, Event Planning, Production, and Marketing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of music theory, musical terms/signs, transposition and notation.
Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to provide leadership and supervision as needed to musicians and staff (in absence of Principal Librarian).
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
Ability to work independently with good time management and multi-tasking skills.
Ability communicate in a positive, professional, and timely fashion.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly.
Credentials and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in music or equivalent studies.
1-3 years’ of experience working in an orchestra library or orchestra administration role preferred.
Special Requirements
Flexible schedule necessary for working rehearsals and concerts.
