Assistant Artistic Director - The Possibility Project

About THE POSSIBILITY PROJECT The Possibility Project operates year-long, youth-led programs that bring together diverse groups of teenagers from the five boroughs of New York City. Participants engage in an intense creative process through which they write an original musical based on stories of their lives and their ideas for a more just and peaceful world. They also create and execute Community Action Projects around the city that raises awareness about issues that are important to them. Using a proven curriculum that combines diversity, violence prevention, problem-solving, and leadership training with the performing arts, The Possibility Project aims to promote personal and social change.About the Role The Assistant Artistic Director will perform the functions outlined below:- Assist the Artistic Director in leading discussions, team-building exercises, and theatre-based workshops for small and large groups of teenagers - Assist in the creative development of scenes to be included in the original musical theater production - Help to manage the program?s logistics and operations by performing duties as assigned by the Artistic DirectorThe Ideal Candidate?- Will have a strong background in theater, primarily as a Director and/or Actor- Enjoys working with youth of diverse backgrounds and experiences- Is energetic and passionate about the empowerment of teenagers- Is both attuned and committed to social change- Works efficiently both alone and in a team setting - Will commit to The Possibility Project?s process and follow its curriculum- Has the ability to be highly organized, to work hard, manage multiple tasks, develop ideas, and create strong relationshipsTimeline, Scheduling, and Other: - We are looking for Assistant Directors for our Saturday Program - The Assistant Artistic Director should expect to commit to 8?10 hours per week to The Possibility Project. This is an unpaid internship position. - Course credit can be coordinated through the candidate?s college or university if requested.- The Assistant Director will be expected to attend the following events for the Saturday Program (some flexibility):oAll rehearsal are on Saturdays: 10:30 pm?5:30 pm (October 2019 ? June 2020, except holidays)oProduction Team meetings: Wednesdays 5:00 pm?7:00 pm (October ?
