Ensemble Theatre to Present THE OTHER PLACE, 1/27-2/15
The second half of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati's (ETC) acclaimed 2014-2015 season kicks off with The Other Place, a riveting and incisive puzzle play by fast-rising playwright Sharr White. As the fragmented memories of her past collide with the fragile moments of her present, one woman's life seems to unravel around her in this regional premiere. Brace yourself for this award-winning psychological thriller, playing January 27-February 15, 2015. Directed by D. Lynn Meyers.
This production stars Regina Pugh (Next Fall, My Name is Asher Lev) alongside celebrated Cincinnati actors Michael G. Bath (Next Fall, My Name is Asher Lev) and Kelly Mengelkoch (Tribes). Ensemble Theatre also welcomes Billy Chace, Resident Ensemble Member at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, in his ETC debut.
Juliana Smithton, an accomplished scientist and pharmaceuticals pitch-woman, is a dominating personality who's always in command, but recently her life seems to be becoming unhinged. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped with a much older man, and her own health hangs in jeopardy. However, in this brilliantly troubling and unexpectedly humorous play, nothing is as it seems. Piece by piece, a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface.
"The caliber of Sharr White's writing, with its poetic and searing nature, caught me in a web of intrigue," explains Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. "He has crafted characters that audiences can relate to and forces you to look at a variety of points of views. While it is very much one woman's story, there is a universal understanding in the play on the subjects of devotion, respect, marriage, love, and never really knowing what the future holds."
