Brand Old Productions to Host Screening of LADIES NEXT DOOR Tonight

By:

Brand Old Productions invites the public to join in celebrating the work of Sheila Mudd Baker, whose original play "The Old Ladies Next Door," was adapted for the film. LADIES NEXT DOOR is a fun farce about aging with style and stars Sheila Mudd Baker, Catherine White, Bob Elkins, Hank Brock, Amy Goodwin, Joe Zappa, and introduces Millie Browner.

Brand Old Productions invites all to the first public screening of the short film comedy LADIES NEXT DOOR at the 20th Century Theater, 3021 Madison Road, Cincinnati, OH 45209 on Monday, May 9 at 7-9 PM (EDT). Tickets are $5 at door or online at www.Eventbrite.com Donations are accepted.

In 2015, respected veteran Ohio-based actress Sheila Mudd Baker was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. But it did not deter her from playing the infamous Shirley Woltz in the independent film 'Clever Girl,' or from writing her first play since college.

"The Old Ladies Next Door," as Baker's play was titled, provided her with the opportunity to continue acting in speaking roles, despite her speech impediment. Miss Baker then chose filmmaking team Joe Zappa and David James, and producers Myra Zimmerman Grubbs and Kip Bennett, to adapt her farce to the screen. The project proved to be a lightning rod for local talent determined to work with Miss Baker again.

The film is a comedy about the lifelong sisterhood between her character, who is recovering from a speech-impeding stroke, and her still very vital friend, and how they plan to face the last chapter of life. 80-year-old Marbeth has a problem--her granddaughter wants a French bulldog for her birthday. But French bulldogs cost $3,000. Enter Marbeth's best friend Georgie who has a few ideas.

Director Joe Zappa adapted the screenplay from Baker's original play. Says Zappa, "Everyone involved, in front of and behind the camera, hit their stride. Tons of Cincinnati-based talent poured their efforts into The Ladies Next Door, and will all be there."

The event includes cash bar, informal receptions pre- and post-screening with opportunity for audience questions and talkback. This event coincides with ALS Awareness Month.
