Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC) and Victory Gardens Theater (VG) are partnering for Holiday Drama Kids, a series of interactive theater workshops for children that are held on Chicago Public School holidays.
The Holiday Drama Kids pilot program was launched last season with three workshops designed to provide parents with an affordable creative outlet for their children during days when school is closed. The workshops were an instant success, each filling to capacity. This season, VG and ASC have expanded the program. Below is the complete Holiday Drama Kids schedule. HOLIDAY DRAMA KIDS PUPPET WORKSHOP Mon., Oct. 12, 9am-1pm VG's Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago Kids learn about the various styles of puppets, design and create their own puppet, and perform their work on the VG main stage for friends and family. Light snacks provided.HOLIDAY DRAMA KIDS 3-DAY WRITING AND PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP Mon. & Tues., Dec. 28-29, 9am-1pm Wed., Dec. 30, 1pm-6pm ASC at Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St., Chicago Kids devise their own New Year's piece, explore acting fundamentals, rehearse short scenes and monologues, and perform their original holiday play on the ASC stage for friends and family. (Light snacks provided Dec. 28-29; dinner provided Dec. 30. Performance at 5pm on Dec. 30.)
HOLIDAY DRAMA KIDS MASK WORKSHOP I & II Fri., Feb. 12, 9am-1pm VG's Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago Mon., Feb. 15, 9am-1pm ASC at Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St., Chicago Kids learn the fundamentals of mask performance, design and create their own original masks, write and rehearse short pieces inspired by their masks, and perform their work on the ASC stage for friends and family. Light snacks provided both days.HOLIDAY DRAMA KIDS 3-DAY STORYTELLING WORKSHOP Tues. & Wed., March 30-31, 9am-1pm Thurs., April 1, 9am-4pm VG's Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago Kids learn about various story genres, witness professional storytelling, write their own stories, practice storytelling in front of their peers, and perform their work on the VG main stage for friends and family. (Light snacks provided March 30-31; lunch provided April 1.)All workshops are recommended for ages 8-18. Each workshop is $20 per day, per child. ASC Passport to Adventure holders save 25%.
