The Second City Training Center to Present THE MIGHTY TED, Saturdays in September

By:

The Second City Training Center will be presenting a new musical, The Mighty Ted: An Unexpected Journey, every Saturday in September at 9 PM in Donny's Skybox Theater, 230 W. North Ave. 4th floor. The show was written and will be performed by Ted Waltmire, a training center student who survived a stroke in April, 2009.

Waltmire will be  joined onstage by Cheryl Szucsits, who will play his wife Michelle. Alexandria Miller Vanover, Ren Bautista, Karen Revakant, Dale Galiniak and Wink Stone will portray various friends, therapists, nurses, doctors and family members. The Mighty Ted is being directed by Second City instructor and veteran Chicago improviser Jay Austin Sukow, with musical direction being provided by Stephanie McCullough Vlcek.

"Based on true events, this musical tells Ted's story from the first emergency room visit on through his exhaustive therapy, to his retirement," explained Sukow. "It details the ordeal of Ted's rehabilitation, as well as the tribulations of dealing with health care organizations and Social Security in a way we hope audiences find both heartfelt and humorous."

Sukow noted that The Mighty Ted also features seven original songs, including the energetic opening, An Average Guy, along with an introspective closing number entitled, All You Can Do Is Laugh.

"We tried to take a catastrophic event and find the moments of poignancy -- and genuine levity -- that all of us search for when dealing with life-changing circumstances. I think audiences will really appreciate how how Ted Waltmire is presenting his own survivor's tale in such a fearless manner. And they're going to laugh like crazy in the process."

Donny's Skybox Theater is located on the 4th floor of the Second City Training Center in Piper's Alley at North and Wells, Chicago, IL.  Tickets are priced at $13 for Adults, $10 for Students, and $8 for Second City Training Center Students.  Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 312-337-3992 or you can visit www.themightyted.com to order online.
