The Artistic Home Presents HOW TO ACT AROUND COPS 11/6-12/13

By:

In the dark, all things are uncertain and strangely exciting. Add an unstable authority figure to the mix and events can quickly spiral out of control.

The Artistic Home Acting Studio series kicks off with the twisted comedy How to Act Around Cops by Logan Brown and Matthew Benjamin, a hilarious study of paranoia and misguided suspicions. Directed by Ensemble member Frank Nall, it features Ensemble Members Katherine Swan and Matt Welton; and Guest Artists Tim Musachio, Edgar Miguel Sanchez and Josh Bonifas. Lighting and Sound Design is by Michael A. Guidry.

How to Act Around Cops opens November 6 and runs through December 13, 2009 at The Artistic Home Acting Studio, 3914 N. Clark Street in Chicago. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 11:00 pm and Sundays at 7:00. Tickets are $15. For tickets, call (866) 811-4111 or visit www.theartistichome.org.

Lauded as "an enigmatic, cool and entirely original play" by nytheater.com, the story begins on a deserted stretch of highway where a traffic cop pulls over two young men, only to find himself swept up in a web of lies that land him on the wrong side of the law. How far will he go to protect himself? Logan Brown and Matthew Benjamin's How to Act Around Cops is a hilarious take on the classic cop caper, with drugs, guns and bodies in car trunks. Weaving dark threads of casual violence with quick-fire dialogue and twisted humor, the play takes a wicked route down the traditional cops-and-robbers path with its intelligent examination of blame, innocence, and all shades of grey in between -- and will appeal to anyone who feels guilty as hell whenever they walk past a policeman.

How to Act Around Cops is part of The Artistic Home Acting Studio series, formed to showcase work by actors from Artistic Home's vibrant and highly regarded training program, as well as provide opportunity for emerging directors. Teaching and producing on the stage for over ten years, the Acting Studio was first formed in 1998 with the belief that the actor is at the heart of great theater. The Studio - and the Ensemble it gave birth to -- strives to create unforgettable moments; to touch audiences who are increasingly distanced from human contact; to readdress the classics and to explore new works with passion; and to bring timeless stories of human emotion to the Chicago community.
