Teatro Luna to Open BEAUTY BY MIDNIGHT Storytelling Series at Center on Halsted

By:

Teatro Luna is teaming up with Center on Halsted, the largest LGBTQ community center in the Midwest, to bring some of Chicago's best storytellers and artists together once a month for a unique, audience interactive and community-building event. Teatro Luna is America's only Pan-Latina theatre company producing a full season of new and original work, and now they are reviving their popular "One Night Stand" series in a new home!

Teatro Luna continues their tradition of night time performance salons with the BEAUTY BY MOONLIGHT Storytelling Series at a new location - the Center on Halsted at 3656 N. Halsted! Dedicated to showcasing the talents of diverse female-identified artists and storytellers of color from all over Chicago, these evenings will also feature games, drinks and interactive storytelling activities designed to get the audience involved in the sharing. Each month, the event will center around a central theme and we will share our stories in a safe and positive environment that encourages honesty, collaboration and fun. "This event adds another safe space for women of color, both on the Northside and at Center on Halsted, to share their stories and see themselves onstage," says Alexandra Meda, Executive Producing Director for Teatro Luna. Lynnea Karlic, Director of Community and Cultural Programs at Center on Halsted continues, "We are incredibly excited to bring community born, community driven programming to Center on Halsted. This series will bring to light wonderful stories within the queer, female, and people of color communities. By hosting an event like this, it allows Center on Halsted to respond to the needs to the population it serves and provides a space to share stories and to cultivate LGBTQ self-determination in writing new narratives."

The inaugural event in March launches during Women's History Month and will center around the theme "How I Learned to be a Woman" and will feature Chicago favorites Rebecca Kling (as seen in her one-woman show "Get Ready for the Vagina Fairy" at the Chicago Fringe Festival), Dr. Liza Ann Acosta (writer of Teatro Luna's PUTAS!) and Janeida Rodriguez (Queen of Humboldt Park and owner and writer of fat2flaca.com). "Chicago audiences have seen our shows for the past thirteen years," says Director of the Artistic Collective, Abigail Vega. "Now it's time to feature some of the city's most talented women doing what they - and we - do best: telling stories we all can relate to."
