Tish is a little girl who loves her grandfather more than anything. When he becomes ill, she runs to the forest, deeply saddened at the prospect of him leaving her. Tish makes a wish on the first star she sees and opens up a world of magic: the World's Greatest Dancing Bear and his silent companion The Mime join her to outrun, outwit, and out-dance the dreaded Ring Master, who claims the Dancing Bear must leave the forest to journey to the Great Center Ring. With the help of a few more larger-than-life characters, Tish, Bear, and Mime travel from resistance to acceptance in the course of this hour-long play, which unfolds gently and wisely.

The plays of Aurand Harris have been produced and applauded in thousands of productions around the world for nearly half a century. Past productions of The Arkansaw Bear have garnered praise including "a magical, daring play, full of charm and vitality." Through dance, storytelling, and magical characters, this play explores and explains a universal truth in an accessible - but not condescending - manner.

The Arkansaw Bear stars Nicole Schmidt, Christopher Rivas, Jim Kress, and features Samantha Sheahan, Krystal Janigan, and Vicki Eisenstein. Directed by Justin Allen, script by Aurand Harris.
