DrekFest is Stage Left Theatre's annual, national search for America's worst ten-minute play. Now in its seventh year, DrekFest is on a mission to expose bad writing for what it really is: damn funny. To be clear, we are not out to make fun of writers or those who love them. We are asking good writers to intentionally write awful plays that make us laugh. Stage Left is embarrassed to announce this year's finalists:

Murder Most Foul, and Heinous, and Foul
by Joseph Keefe

Mommy, Get Your Gun
by Jake Linquist (two-time Drekfest Grand Loser)

Brilliant Play by the Liberal Agenda for the Midwest, Which Will Appeal to Critics and Make A S***-Ton of Money
by Kyle Martin

F*** You, Janine: A Play Ruined by My Ex, Like Everything Else in My Life
by Peter Papachronopoulos

The finalists were chosen through a blind submission process by a panel of Stage Left ensemble members. The finalists will be performed as staged readings on Tuesday, August 20th, 2013, 7:30pm

at The ComedySportz Theatre, 929 W. Belmont. Following readings of these four plays, a panel of adjudicators will rip the playwrights apart for blighting the world in this way. Our distinguished panel this year is:

Kerry Reid (freelance critic for the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Reader)
Eric Roach (Eric and Andy's Reviews You Can Lews, The Factory Theater)
Ele Matelan (local actor and reigning queen of the Chicago theater roast scene)

One play will be chosen as the Grand Loser by vote of the audience in attendance. Cash prizes will be given to all four Finalists, as well as other highly coveted honors for the truly terrible. In addition to Worst Play, prizes that may be awarded by our panel of adjudicators include those for Worst Title, Worst Opening Line,Worst Stage Direction and Worst Character Name, among others. The Finals take place at The ComedySportz Theatre, 929 W. Belmont in Chicago at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15.
