Short Story Theatre Welcomes Former WGN Radio Host and Sun-Times Columnist Judy Markey Tonight

Short Story Theatre, a troupe of local writers/performers, present an evening of storytelling tonight, July 25, at 7:30 p.m., at Cellar Gate Wine Bar, 524 Sheridan Road in Highwood.

Performing with the group for the first time is former WGN radio host and Sun-Times columnist Judy Markey of Highland Park and her story "24-hour Widow." Novelist Ron Levitsky of Lake Forest will present his story - "Gay Bingo." Mary Lou Gilliam of Deerfield performs "A Bat Story" and Donna Lubow of Riverwoods tells her story about "The Man in the Elevator."

Stories are creative non-fiction and are approximately 10 minutes long, with breaks between stories to eat and drink. Tickets are $10. 2-drink or 1 drink/1 appetizer minimum. Seating is limited. Judy Markey spent 20 years co-hosting WGN Radio's "Kathy and Judy Show." The show won both state and national awards. She has published two novels, and two collections of her nationally syndicated Sun-Times columns. She is a born talker, a born writer, and a born lover of story-telling, but... she's still scared of screwing up.

Ron Levitsky is a retired educator and a recipient of the Kohl Award for Excellence in Teaching. He currently serves as Trustee for West Deerfield Township, writes a monthly local political column, and hosts a public access TV show, "Friends of Ron." He has written numerous articles for educational journals. In addition, Ron has published four mystery novels and several short stories, four of which have been anthologized. He likes dogs a lot.

Mary Lou Gilliam has been an English teacher for nearly three decades. Mary Lou minored in theatre. Besides musical comedy and the church choir, she has been a wedding soloist for many years. Her writing credits include nationally distributed educational materials, user guides, and magazine articles. Most importantly, she uses music and drama to engage her students.

Donna Lubow (co-founder of Short Story Theatre) has taught English Literature and drama and has directed and performed in numerous plays. She is a co-founder of Highland Park Players, Theatre in the Woods in Riverwoods, and ARTicuLIT Readers Theatre, as well as a founding member of Attic Playhouse. She has worked with several other theatres including Apple Tree, Academy Festival Theatre, Touchstone Theatre, and Imagination Theatre.
