Northwestern University's FORWARD SHIFT To Feature Dance Program Seniors May 21-24

By:

The Northwestern University Dance Program students will present “Forward Shift,” a concert that celebrates the completion of the Class of 2009’s dance studies.

Performances of the annual spring dance concert will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21; 8 p.m. Friday, May 22; 8 p.m. Saturday, May 23; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, in the Ballroom of the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, 10 Arts Circle Drive, on the University’s Evanston campus. The concert is open to the public.

The Dance Program will host a reception following the 8 p.m. Friday (May 22) evening performance only, which also is open to the public.

“Forward Shift” is the final project of Northwestern University senior dance majors and minors, under the guidance of dance faculty advisors Susan A. Lee and Jeff Hancock. The seniors choreograph, produce and perform in the concert, which concludes their undergraduate studies and serves as an introduction of their work to the professional dance community.

“The range and depth of material being presented is far-reaching,” said Hancock. “The seniors will present works ranging from subtle and whimsical to highly charged physical dance theater, all carefully, thoughtfully and passionately crafted.”

This year’s senior choreographers include Genevieve Garcia, Adam Gauzza, Lauran Lefevre, Lauren Murrell, Kate Schultz and Nicole West, who will also perform during the concert.

The cast will feature nearly 30 Northwestern students from a variety of majors.

The concert will feature a world premiere piece by the New York based dance company David Parker and The Bang Group, which will be performed by the six senior dancers, following the dance company’s weeklong residency at Northwestern University.

General admission is $10 for the general public; and $5 for students with valid IDs. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-seated basis. Tickets can be purchased through Northwestern University’s Theatre and Interpretation Center box office by calling (847) 491-7282. Tickets will also be sold at the door prior to each of the four performances.
