Redtwist Theatre is thrilled to announce James Fleming as Associate Artistic Director, and Matthew Moynihan as Literary Manager.

As Associate Artistic Director, James will be working closely with Redtwist founder and Artistic Director, Michael Colucci, to further develop the artistic vision of the company for the immediate future, and for the long-term vitality of one of Chicago's most-respected storefront theatres. This partnership will include choosing each Redtwist season of plays (with an emphasis on exciting new work), enhancing the standards of excellence of Redtwist productions, and nurturing relationships with talented artists in Chicago and beyond.

James Fleming is the Associate Artistic Director of Redtwist Theatre and a Chicago-based actor, director, and producer. Focusing primarily on new play development, he has nurtured new plays and translations with Court Theatre, The House Theatre of Chicago, The Hypocrites, Route 66 Theatre, The New Colony, and First Floor Theater. He has assisted many prominent Chicago directors, including Charles Newell (IPHIGENIA AT AULIS at Court Theatre), Steve Scott (ROSE at The Greenhouse Theatre; THE SEEDBED at Redtwist Theatre), Scott Weinstein (THE DRAWER BOY at Redtwist Theatre) and Jason Gerace (WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? at Redtwist Theatre). As an actor, he has appeared in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and THE PRINCESS, THE MINSTREL, AND THE RABID BAT (Rabid Bat Theatricals), THE PARANOID STYLE IN AMERICAN POLITICS (First Floor Theater), A CABIN IN THE SNOW (touring) and was a performing understudy in MUD BLUE SKY at A Red Orchid Theatre. In the summer of 2012, he served as a line producer on WHAT'S THE T? with the About Face Youth Theatre bringing the show to Red Tape Theatre and the National Museum of Mexican Art. He is a script reader for Route 66 Theatre's TEST DRIVE, and a participant in the 2016 Chicago Director's Lab. James is a proud graduate of the University of Chicago with a BA in Theatre & Performance Studies.

"I am so excited to be joining Redtwist Theatre. As one of the vital storefront theaters in Chicago, Redtwist has produced memorable, intimate performances and nurtured the careers of many of Chicago's finest actors, directors, and designers. I'm looking forward to deepening Redtwist's relationship with the Edgewater community and Chicago theatre community, expanding our current pool of artists, and creating a new play development program that will utilize our affiliation with the National New Play Network to provide Chicago writers a national platform and make Redtwist an important destination for new plays nationally. Most importantly, as Redtwist has been built on plays of the traditional American canon, I am interested in continuing to explore and reimagine what texts belong in that pantheon, both historically and in the future."

As Literary Manager, Matt will be sleuthing and developing the best new plays by the most exciting young playwrights, especially in Chicago, but also in the U.S. and beyond. He will be managing and collaborating with the Redtwist Literary Circle-a group of a dozen or so company members and guest artists who keep abreast of the most current crop of new work-in search of producing terrific new plays at Redtwist as world-premieres.

Matthew Moynihan is the Literary Manager of Redtwist Theatre. As a new play developer, he most recently produced THE ART OF LOSING at The Den Theatre and is producing a new reading series for Chicago Writers under 30. As a writer his plays have been workshopped at Northwestern University, The Greenhouse, and independently in Chicago's storefront circuits. His play, Moonies, was a semi-finalist for Route 66's Test Drive series and The O'Neill National Playwrights Conference.
