The Music Institute of Chicago announces the appointment of pianist Yana Reznik to the faculty of its award-winning Academy program, an elite training center for gifted pre-college pianists and string players.

Born in Moscow, Reznik has performed in some of the world's most iconic venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Michael Walsh of Time magazine wrote, "Think of her as a young Martha Argerich and you will have some idea of the experience that lies in store for you."

More than a typical performer, Reznik has been revolutionizing perceptions of classical music with innovative programming and passionate storytelling. She has appeared on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, performing with Nicola Benedetti; and on the American Country Music Awards on PBS, performing with Carrie Underwood.

Reznik holds a bachelor of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a master of music degree from the University of Southern California. She has also studied at the Rachmaninoff School of Music in Moscow.

About the appointment, Reznik commented, "It is with great honor that I accept the faculty position at the prestigious MIC Academy. The greatest passion in my career has been building programs that inspire young generations to love classical music, to appreciate its importance in our society, and to connect with wider audiences to carry on the traditions of this important art form. The Academy's commitment to provide the highest level of education and outreach in the community has changed the lives of hundreds of young people throughout the years. I'm thrilled to begin our collaboration with a wonderful Academy team and its talented and dedicated students."

Music Institute President and CEO Mark George said, "The Academy is ecstatic to welcome Yana to its faculty. She is the very definition of what a 21st century musician needs to be. I expect her to be a transformative teacher and a creative force for many years to come." Academy Director Jim Setapen added, "Yana not only plays with beauty, passion, a brilliant virtuoso technique, and total conviction, but she also connects extraordinarily well with audiences through her naturally charming spoken introductions to the pieces she performs."

In the coming months, Reznik is offering a series of free master classes and workshops at schools and other venues in the Chicago area. Anyone interested in hosting a master class should contact the Music Institute at 847.448.8311.
