Sing-A-Long Sound of Music once again beckons turkey-stuffed friends and families to Chicago's Music Box Theatre for Thanksgiving weekend. The spirited audience-participation event includes a presentation of the 1962 Rogers & Hammerstein movie musical The Sound of Music in glorious Technicolor and full-screen Cinemascope. Lyrics are projected on the screen during the movie so that the audience can easily sing along to "Do-Re-Me," "Edelweiss" and, of course, "My Favorite Things." The film is preceded by a hosted warm-up and a "fancy-dress" costume contest. Sing-A-Long Sound of Music runs Friday-Sunday, November 23-25, 2012at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue.

Upon entry, ticketholders to Sing-A-Long Sound of Music receive a free goody bag with special props for the "magic moments" that make the evening go with a "bang." Before the movie begins, the emcee leads the audience in a vocal warm-up. Participants are coached on a series of crowd responses, such as booing the Nazis and hissing at the scheming Baroness. The emcee then takes the audience through the interactive funpacks, which contain a variety of props to be wielded at strategic points during the film, such as edelweiss to wave during the Salzburg Festival and party poppers to crack when [spoiler] stern Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) finally kisses flibbertigibbet governess Maria (Julie Andrews).

Robert Wise's 1965 classic – filmed on location in the breathtaking Austrian Alps and starring Andrews (an ingénue with a four-octave vocal range) – won the Best Picture Oscar and went on to become one of the most beloved (and top grossing) movies of all time. Whether 16 going on 17, or 60 going on 70, audiences of all ages love this timeless story about love, music, joy and fighting for what is right.
