LOVESICK BLUES: REMEMBERING HANK WILLIAMS

Thursday, September 8, 2016

More than a country singer, Hank Williams was an essential American voice. Ease and authenticity mark this ensemble's homage to Williams' brief but prolific recording career. Singer/songwriter Ethan Kinsella cultivated his sound touring with Americana, Country, and Bluegrass bands. The skilled musicians surrounding him were featured in popular Chicago productions of Hank Williams: Lost Highway, Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash, and the long-running hit Million Dollar Quartet. Drawing from "The Hillbilly Shakespeare's" deep well of favorites, featured songs include "Hey Good Lookin," "Your Cheating Heart," and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry."

UNFORGETTABLE: FALLING IN LOVE WITH NAT KING COLE

Wednesday, November 2, 2016

Chicago theatre standout Evan Tyrone Martin (Dreamgirls, Far From Heaven, Rent, Violet-Jeff Award Nomination) warmly resonates the velvety vocal style of musical legend Nat King Cole. Martin intimately relates Cole's musical journey: from his upbringing in the Chicago church, to shuffling along the jazz scene, to his emergence as a popular music icon. The enduring popularity of Cole's recordings, particularly his holiday standards, is a testimony to the timelessness of his sound, a sound synonymous with American tradition. Classic tunes include "Straighten Up and Fly Right," "L-O-V-E," and "Smile."

JUDY GARLAND: COME RAIN OR COME SHINE, STARRING ANGELA INGERSOLL

Thursday, January 12, 2017

Broadway World calls her "brilliant," and Chicago Sun-Times says she's, "simply stunning." Chicago's award-winning dynamo Angela Ingersoll (I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues, The 12 Dames of Christmas, The Great Gatsby) hauntingly captures the emotional power and presence of beloved superstar Judy Garland. With her great big voice and naturally winning humor, Ingersoll's loving treatment of Miss Show Business is nothing short of breathtaking. Basking in Judy's brightness and unafraid of her darkness, Ingersoll's homage reveals a riveting fusion of fragility and strength. Iconic favorites include "Over the Rainbow," "Get Happy," and "The Man That Got Away."

SWINGING ON A STAR: A SALUTE TO BING CROSBY & THE ANDREWS SISTERS

Thursday, March 23, 2017

All aboard for a sentimental journey back to when Bing was King! Direct from Broadway, debonair baritone Jared Bradshaw (Jersey Boys) evokes cherished American icon Bing Crosby, resonating with all the ease and clarity of the original crooner himself. The dashing Bradshaw is joined by a trio of talented dolls belting out the infectious harmonies of the Andrews Sisters. It's a real humdinger of an evening that would do Der Bingle proud, featuring familiar hits like "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive," "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," and "White Christmas."
