Michael Fosberg's INCOGNITO Plays 16th Street 5/6-29
16th Street Theater presents the national hit that started in Chicago for a 4-week run May 6-29, 2010 with a press opening Thursday, May 6 at 7:30 PM at the Berwyn Cultural Center, 6420 16th Street in Berwyn. Imagine discovering you are not the person you thought you were: that you have a family, a history, an ethnicity you never knew. Writer/performer Michael Fosberg recounts his true tale of his search for his biological father at age 34 that turns up a whole lot more. Armed with only the name of his father and the knowledge that he lived in the Detroit area two decades earlier, Michael, who is white, makes a miraculous call which in one instant changes his entire identity: his father is African-American.
This sets in motion a series of discoveries of family -- of secrets and lies, confrontation and reconciliation. Incognito balances humor and emotion as it deals with race, prejudice and life's difficult choices.
Hailed by Chicago Tribune's Richard Christiansen as "one of the top theatrical events of the 2001 season... an engrossing and deeply moving trip, for both the audience and the performer... it will shake you to your own roots," Incognito has subsequently toured to theaters, performing arts centers, high schools and colleges across the country. It now returns to the Chicago area in the intimate 16th Street Theater for its 2010 Season Three: What is Home? Post-show dialogues follow every performance.
